New York article
It's springtime in the good ol' U.S. Of
A. and that means the annual, accuse media figures of racism witch
hunt, has begun again. If you're unfamiliar with this type of spring
fever, here's how it works:
Someone
in the world of news or entertainment says something “edgy” about
a person(s) as they are paid and told to do by the company they work
for. A small group of people (or in this case another country and a
small group of their people here) hear what has been said and object
very loudly (really LOUD!), they then proceed to put pressure on the
company this commentator works for to have him fired or else they'll
boycott the company's advertisers. The unfortunate thing is, these
company's usually do give in to this small group of peoples demands,
fire the commentator and deny that they ever wanted that person to
say anything that might be controversial, even though that's why he
or she (usually he) was hired in the first place. Now that you're all
up to speed, let's get back to the article:
This
time the controversy surrounds CNN's Jack Cafferty who said of
America's relationship with China on the April 9 airing of “The
Situation Room”:
"We
continue to import their junk with the lead paint on them and the
poisoned pet food and export . . . jobs to places where you can pay
workers a dollar a month to turn out the stuff that we're buying from
Wal-Mart. So I think our relationship with China has certainly
changed. I think they're basically the same bunch of goons and thugs
they've been for the last 50 years."
CNN
later confirmed what most rational thinking people already knew, that
he was talking about the Chinese Government. But still plenty of
Chinese-Americans have protested outside CNN's Los Angeles and
Atlanta offices calling for Cafferty to be fired. A few of the
protesters were quoted as saying, "It
maliciously attacks all Chinese. This would not be accepted if it was
directed at any other ethnic group." and,
"Most of
these people are American citizens and legal resident aliens, we love
China and we love America too. We should not be regarded as goons and
thugs." Alright
look, no one is regarding Chinese people as goons and thugs, I can
tell the difference between a Chinese citizen and the goons and thugs
who have run that country for the past 50 years. I understand that
these protesters are very proud that China is hosting the Olympics
this year, but because of there crimes against humanity I really
don't believe that China should be hosting the Olympics and I think a
lot of people would agree.
They
say western media shouldn't make the games political, when haven't
the Olympics been political? In 1936 Hitler saw the games as a great
way to promote Nazi ideology. In 1972 Munich the terrorist group
Black September took hostage and killed 9 Israeli athletes while
demanding the release of Palestinian prisoners in Israel. The 1980
games in the USSR were boycotted by 66 nations because of the Soviet
Union participation in the Afghan civil war.
Also
why are they even protesting? Didn't they leave China because their
government is oppressive and had them working in sweat shops for a
dollar a day 18 hours a day with lead based paint, among other
things? Doesn't China support the leaders committing the genocide in
Sudan? And the last I checked they still occupy and oppress the
people of Tibet. What are they protesting? Really? If they don't want
to hear anything negative about the Chinese government maybe they
should just move back there and they'll never have to hear a bad
thing said about China again. This is not yet a communist or fascist
country, and even if it was I think our media would still be able to
bad mouth another country's government.
